“Every now and then go away, have a little relaxation, for when you come back to your work your judgment will be surer. Go some distance away because then the work appears smaller and more of it can be taken in at a glance and a lack of harmony and proportion is more readily seen.”
Leonardo Da Vinci
First of all, I am not setting a good example by writing this entry on a Saturday! But as my father used to say, ‘Do as I say, not as I do’.
But seriously, we all need to create more balance in our lives. We are too stressed, over committed, and we don’t know when to slow down – or sometimes stop. Have you ever noticed when you have your most creative or inspirational ideas? It usually happens when we are exercising, in the shower, ‘pottering’ – in other words when we are relaxed, and not working.
We all know that there are times when working to a deadline we can achieve a great deal. The problem is, the longer we work, the more tired we get – then our performance suffers and we make mistakes.
So if you want to be more relaxed, be more creative, and perform better – try the following:
- Go for a walk
- Read a book
- Listen to some music
- Take the whole week end off for a change
- Spend some relaxing time with family or friends
Whatever you do – give yourself permision to take a break. Do not feel guilty about ‘Taking Time Out’.
Take Time Out – What are you going to do this week end?
